Now that Absalom is close by, one would think David would be ready to reconcile. But this is not the case; David is avoiding conflict as much as possible. So Absalom decides to get to the king through Joab, but even Joab isn’t answering. So Absalom once again gets his servants to do his dirty work and sets Joab’s fields on fire and succeeds in getting his attention. But this is in reality a prelude to Absalom’s plot of overthrow David’s kingdom, consequence of David’s actions. This week, we study these events leading up to a crisis of immense magnitude in the kingdom of David.
